The Physician's Revenge: Story Planning
Story source: The Arabian Nights' Entertainments by Andrew Lang and illustrated by H. J. Ford (1898)
I believe that these changes will compliment the original story well and will provide a very interesting read. I have always enjoyed stories like this that have dramatic, unexpected plot twists that foil the antagonist. I will look into whether or not I will have to agonist survive the encounter or follow a similar plot line to the original story. I believe some changes can be made to make the story even more engaging to the average reader.
According to Arabian Nights Wikipedia, the Arabian nights stories were collected over a long period of time by various different people. The stories originate in medieval times and span are influenced by Persian, Indian, Mesopotamian, Jewish Egyptian and Arabic cultures. Many of these stores were passed around by word of mouth in the form of folk stories. and were written down until centuries later. I think that turning the story from the medieval times to modern times would provide a fun twist to the plot of the story.
According to Lang's Wikipedia Page, the author of the story, Andrew Lang, was a scottish poet who is known best for his contributions to the folk and fairy tells genre. Lang included a great deal of historical accuracy to the stories that he wrote. I was unable to determine if the physicians revenge had a foundation in facts of if that was purely his imagination inspired by other true events. Either way, this story provides me with a great amount of inspiration for my next story telling.

Hi Matt, I am glad you liked that story; it is very cool indeed. For the story planning, you are doing research too; here's what the assignment says:
ReplyDeleteRESEARCH. Use Wikipedia and then Google if needed to research cultural details, geography, history, names, etc. Spend at least 30 minutes exploring relevant resources, including links to those resources in your post.
So, the post is not just ideas that come to mind, but actual research you do and that hopefully you can use for the story next time, either in the story itself, or in the author's note as background.
